Historical Cruise
Gjesvær or Geirsver is the only place in this area mentioned in Snorre Sturlason saga.
The Viking-story says that Thore Hund killed Karle, the Kings man, in Geirsver.
There was some disagrement about splitting the treasure taken from Russia.
Already in the Viking Age, Gjesvær was known as a trading post, fish station and was the first site at Magerøy which had a permanent settlement.
From the early Middle Ages up to the last century, the village was one of the largest and richest fishing villages in Finnmark. Captain Björn is guide on this trip.
We take a trip and look at some old settlements in the Gjesvær area.
